Kat's Cambridge Catch Up #3
Ah the chill of the approaching winter can be felt now. Many mornings are foggy, wet and frosty which makes getting out of bed that litter bit harder. I've been quite a busy little bee which you will see in this post. There are lots of photos crammed in here so let's get it to it!
- FOOD -
I love going out to eat but as we are mostly on a budget, we try not to do it too often. We live near a strip of places to eat so there's a variety of choices on offer only a moments walk away. There's a lovely cafe called Patisserie Valerie, filled with beautiful cakes and slices. I went there on a Saturday morning and had granola, yoghurt and honey with a pot of green tea. I found the granola to yoghurt ratio a little on the drier side but it was still tasty. Hubby and I dined at Low Table at Christ's College with James, Mathew and two of his friends. The menu was amazing for £10 - we had baked camembert with dipping veggies, roast beef with baked veg and Yorkshire pudding and banana split for dessert! Sooo yummy! We tried a new place for dinner this week and it was at Kimmoy a fusion of Asian cuisine. Hubby had the thai pattaya noodles and I had wonton noodle soup. I couldn't make myself use the big ladle though!
SCIENCE WORK
First thing Monday morning, I walk into the prep room and was greeted with a wet floor sign and a huge puddle of water. The maintenance team were notified however, I didn't know long they were going to be so I started mopping. The water level didn't go down for ages but eventually it all got cleaned up with the help of the other lab tech. Luckily, we weren't super busy that morning! I also attended my first lab tech meeting this week and met other technicians working in the area. Some personal achievements I had were setting up a simple potometer to show transpiration in plants and learning how to solidify iodine crystals from a gaseous state. It's super pretty.
YOGA
I like to try and fit in some yoga during the week and my Aussie yogi has put up an Instagram challenge for the month. It involves yoga poses and partner poses. Hubby was good to do the first one but I haven't been able to get him to try more!
AERIAL SILKS
Back in Australia, my yoga teacher also taught anti-gravity yoga (yoga with a hammock) which I participated in for a few months before I went to the UK. Unfortunately, there's nothing like it in Cambridge so I found the next best thing and something I've wanted to try for years - aerial silks! I joined the Cambridge Community Circus and I've been to 3 classes so far. It is as hard as it looks! I have yet to get some good upper arm strength but I have learnt to climb and do a couple of tricks. I've got 4 more weeks of classes and hopefully I'll be able to do some cool stuff!
GETTING COLDER!
Work just started a craft club and I'm learning how to knit again after a failed attempt 5 or so years ago. I think it'll be a mini scarf! The cats are also feeling the chill, they've been sleeping huddled close to us on the couch and sometimes on the bed too! They are just so cute!
Thanks for reading! Until next time...
