Kat's Cambridge Catch Up #13
I hope you had an awesome Christmas! Is it that every year we say that the year has gone by so quickly?? It's almost 2018 so here's a quick-ish recap of my December!
- Snow snow snow! -
I don't think I could ever get tired of waking up to a snow covered day! I think we had 3 occasions of snow in the last couple of months.
Sunday 10th December

- The Greatest Showman -
Finally get to see a movie and this one was top on my list! I quite enjoyed the singing and dancing. I'm terrible at giving a synopsis so if you're interested, just go an see it! Mmmm Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron!
- Mill Rd Winter Fair -
Cam Circus has the pleasure of being a part of Mill Rd Winter Fair this year. Basically, one of the roads in Cambridge gets shut down from all vehicle traffic for the day. There are local stalls, activities, live music and food set up along the road. I didn't end up going last year so I made sure I went this year and to also help out CCC. There were sooooo many people and by late afternoon it got so cold that I could barely move my hands! It was such a fun day interacting with the locals and showing the kids how to juggle, hula hoop and diablo.
- All the Christmas parties! -
Tis the season to be eating constantly! I think I ate a gazillion mince pies in the course of two weeks whereas I've only had two in my whole life back in Oz. At work, each faculty put on a small morning tea each day for 12 days so there was always a lot of food to graze on. Then we had a science faculty Xmas meal after school where one of our teachers cooked up a storm!!!!! The schools also came together at the end of the term for our Xmas feast. The food was great but the best part was everyone herding to the pub at like 3pm. We probably filled half the place! A good time and many drinks were had! CCC also had a Christmas pub night at The Empress. It's the pub to be for all of the festiveness!
- Being a model for a day -
An early Christmas present to myself was organising a photoshoot with a local photographer who has done many photos of my circus friends. It was a couple of months in the making, talking about the idea, looks and feel of the photos. It was pretty much an experiment in a new space but I was still keen to do some fun things! I contacted Simon a while back with my interest in booking a shoot but didn't really have an idea. It wasn't until I posted a photo of a new dance costume on my IG that he thought it would be good the shoot.
I was so excited when photo day rolled around. We had a makeup artist and hair stylist to help create the vision of some glitter queen dancing through a wave of silverness. It was a long afternoon spent dong poses, then redoing poses and holding them at strange angles. I got glitter everywhere and probably in the taxi home as well. I've seen some of the photos already and I'm soooo happy with them!!! I can't wait to do another shoot in the warmer months next year! Thank you Simon, Becks and Kate!

- A Christmas Show -
Some time at the end of November or the beginning of December, a friend from circus asked me if I would do a hoop performance another local circus place, High Wired, where she teaches at as well. I also jump on the chance of an performance but I was a bit nervous as I don't really play on the hoop that much. I was also really sick with the cold for a couple of weeks so it hindered me from doing much practise on it. However, the few attempts I did have allowed me to create a short sequence for myself and for a doubles section. We spent the night before the show setting up and doing a quick run through. We had the show at the very pretty St Andrew's Church in Cambridge and it was already decorated with lots of Christmas ornaments and a huge tree at the front. The church held a carol service outside (everyone braved the cold) before we put on the show called 'A light in the dark' inside. The story was a girl (played by Laura) felt left out of the Christmas spirit and yearned to be a part of it all. She witnessed many festive aerial and floor routines and each performer gifted her with an item in the spirit of Christmas, where it be a present, a decoration etc. She decorates the human 'Christmas tree' with the things she has collected and opens up a huge present where she gives the other performers posters with phrases to fit the spirit of Christmas. It was such a magical night and I had such a great time performing with some new circus friends! You can watch my routine here!
It's New Year's Eve now and I'm watching ABC live Countdown concert. Loving it! Going to spend tonight with some friends! Have a great NYE and see you in 2018!
