Revlon Ultra HD Matte LipColor | Review

Still on the matte lip bandwagon! Great job to the brands that are keeping this trend alive! After trying the L'Oreal version of a matte powdered lip, I saw that Revlon had a different take with a velvet gel matte formula. So I bought a couple of shades to try when Priceline had 50% off Revlon cosmetics a couple of weeks ago.

I have been a fan of many Revlon lip products in the past such as their super lustrous range, colorburst balms, colorstay moisture stain and who can remember their lip butters!?! In saying that, I haven't been a fan of their matte formulas of their liquid lipsticks, ultimate suede line and matte lipsticks. I was hoping that the Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor would be different!

This formula is much better than the previous matte formulas I have tried from Revlon. The brand describes this product as a lightweight gel formula with high definition velvety matte colour and a moisturising feel. It comes in a cute slightly frosty oval tube which is very sleek.

I must agree that it is a very lightweight formula bordering on a gel-moussey feeling that leaves a very light tacky but not sticky texture on the lips. So there is a bit of friction when rubbing the lips together but not slippery like a lipgloss. I guess you can call it a liquid lipstick that doesn't dry like a typical matte version (like Australis Velourlips). It is super comfortable and non-drying and I really enjoy wearing it. When it is first applied, the formula stays a little 'glossy' but the shine disappears after some time eating/drinking/chatting a lot. The remaining look as a lovely satin finish where the lips still look like lips (similar to the L'Oreal lip powder). It wore for about 5 or so hours on me with eating and drinking and the shades I got left a nice stain on the lips as well.

A couple of things I don't like about this product (1) the applicator is a strange shape consisting of two flat sides with a rounded tip that's a little too big/thick to line around the lips properly (gets better after practise though but great for applying product on the main part of the lips) and (2) it has a scent that is reminiscent of cherry flavoured cough medicine (not noticeable once applied).
Swatches L-R: Addiction and Devotion
Addiction

Out of the eight available shades in Australia, I picked up the shades Devotion and Addiction. DEVOTION is a very wearable soft neutral pink and ADDICTION is a bluey berry shade that is not too deep. I love gravitating towards shades like Devotion particularly around this time of year.
Devotion

If you are a lipstick fan, these Revlon Ultra HD Matte LipColors might be for you! Forget they are meant to be a matte finish because I feel like it's even better and super comfortable. The shade range should suit most skin tones and consists of nudes, pinks, coral and a red. These lip colours retail for $23.95 but you can definitely find them on special in most stores that sell Revlon. Give them a swatch for yourselves!
