Catmosphere Space Cat Cafe
In a little terrace house situated in the city suburb of Surry Hills, is a place where you can play with cats and relax with a cup of coffee. The idea of a cat cafe isn't a new one around the globe but Catmosphere is the first one to open in Sydney (and perhaps Australia) in 2015. Being a cat lover, I knew I had to visit this place!
I ended up visiting Catmosphere not once but twice in January this year to experience two of their offers. Catmosphere consists of a cafe and two separate cat rooms, one with adults and the other with kittens. All the felines housed here are rescued and funds from this business goes towards their socialisation and care with the hopeful outcome of them going to new furever homes.
COFFEE & COOKIE WITH THE CATSTRONAUTS
Cost: $20
Duration: 1 hour
Hubby came with me on my first visit to the space themed cat cafe. I remember it was such a hot day that day, crazy Aussie summer, and we asked if we could get a cold beverage instead of a hot coffee. Luckily, they were accommodating and made us something more cooling. We visited the adult cats and they were all feeling the heat too. It was also the time of day where they slept a lot so we didn't have too much interaction them. Some enjoyed being patted and played with more than others. I love their names - Tardis, Obi Wan Catobi, Major Tom, Fuzz Aldrin and Neil Pawstrong to name a few. I'm smiling like a little kid!
Our experience was shared with 4 other visitors and I felt that it was the perfect group size for the room we were in. The group before us had a few more and that might have felt a bit cramped. There were about 3 or 4 seating places for us huumans which were well loved by the cats (ignore the cat scratches). The cats looked pretty relaxed and content despite the heat and they ample food and water and places for them to hide. Our appointment was during the 'quiet session' from 2pm to 3pm, where we were encouraged to relax, keep the volume to a minimal, explore mindfulness and meditate. It was actually very peaceful being surrounded by sleeping cats. At the end of our visit, we were thanked by the staff and were given a tasty cat shaped treat for the trip home.
COFFEE WITH THE KITTEN CADETS
Cost: $22
Duration: 30 min
I took my UK friends, M and K, for my second visit to the cat cafe. This time we meet the adorable kittens. Who doesn't love kittens??!! We were in this second smaller room with another visitor so it was just the 4 of us. The kittens took a little while to warm up to us but once they realised we were here to play, they were more than happy to show use their personalities. Some of the older ones were a little grumpy and looked on from a distance but the little ones were quite playful! The staff allowed us to stay with the kittens for an hour as it was a quite time for them and it was just before they scheduled rest break which was such a treat! Some of the kittens loved exploring our bags and other had a taste for shoelaces! So adorable! I hope they all get adopted to new homes!
I highly recommend this place to any cat lover to cannot get enough of cats. The cafe downstairs isn't very big and I think only has 2 or 4 chairs but there a nice selection of food and drink. The staff are friendly and are willing to have a chat with you about what they do and about the kitties. Along with playing with the adult and young cats, they also offer yoga with cats (specific days and times) and a sponsor a cat program. Bookings are recommended to secure a spot but they also accept walk-ins if there are spots available.
