Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation | Review

Who here has more foundations than they could actually wear in their lifetime? I know I do! And I didn't help the situation by purchasing a new one to try! *sorrynotsorry* I picked up the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation with Comfort Serum during Cole's (or Woolworth's, I can't remember) 40% off sale. I already have the one in the blue lid (Match Perfection) which I'm not overly fussed about now but have heard some good things about this version from people with oily skin. Here's my thoughts on it!

The following are claims from Rimmel claims about this product:
  • a full coverage foundation containing a comfort serum that makes the skin feel smooth and moisturised
  • blends flawlessly, instantly and easily into the skin for coverage that won't let you down
  • doesn't feel heavy or mask the skin
  • sweat, heat and transfer proof for up to 25 hours
  • dermatologist tested

This foundation comes in a tall glass bottle with a pump and a pretty loose lid. The consistency of this product is on the thicker side of a liquid foundation. You get 30ml (or 1 fl oz) of product which is pretty standard and it also contains SPF 20.

Lasting Finish comes in about six to eight shades depending on where you look (Rimmel website compared to Priceline). Even though it does have some options for lighter skintones, it doesn't look like the range go very deep but that can be expected from many affordable lines. I picked up the shade True Beige 203 which seems to be absent from any online sites I would normally go to so I'm not sure what is happening there *shrugs*. It does look like a good match for my skin colour though! It also has that typical foundation smell but it's not detectable on the skin.

APPLICATION

I tested the foundation out with primer (Maxfactor Facefinity primer) and without primer on either side of face. I decided to use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to apply foundation due to its semi-thick consistency and it blends wonderfully! I found that it worked ever so slightly better on the side with no primer but the end result was quite comparable. The second day I used a damp Beauty Blender without a primer and it worked like a dream (as always). The next day, I used Mecca Lit from Within primer underneath and applied it with the RT brush again and it applied better than over the Maxfactor one.

COVERAGE

The coverage is a very good medium to medium-full depending on how you apply it. I only used one pump of the foundation for both the brush and Beauty Blender and that was enough to cover my face, giving a different amount of coverage of course. I am wary of adding anther layer of foundation in case it feels heavy on the skin but I haven't tried doing this. In saying that, my skin looked even and redness was covered without feeling heavy or cakey.

WEAR TIME

I find this foundation remains slightly tacky on the skin however, giving it about 5 minutes to 'set' then lightly powder over top does get rid of most of this feeling. The foundation gives a demi-matte finish on my skin which tends to be combination-oily. After all of the different trials, I found that the foundation did last pretty well throughout the day. I noticed a little tiny bit of creasing in my smile lines near my nose but my chin and middle of my eyebrows stayed separation-free (most of the time)! However, I don't find it to be transfer-proof if there's rubbing involved as the product does come off and not in a pretty way. I had some lipstick on my chin and when I went to rub it off, the area went kind of patchy and textured *note: remember not to rub!*. I am very pleased with the longevity of the foundation on the rest of my face though!! I'm not sure of the 25hr wear claim though XD. The inclusion of the SPF does give a slightly lighter face and adds areas of shininess in flash photography whereas in real life, the skin still looks nice.

One day, I forgot to wash the left over foundation off the back of my hand and I didn't realise until during the day. It set so well that I couldn't rub it off!
Foundation only (plus eyes)
Rest of the makeup

This is a lovely affordable foundation for those who need that extra coverage but also lightweight and blendable. I really like this foundation! Rimmel Lasting Finish 25Hr foundation retails for $18.95 but it goes on sale regularly at such stores as Priceline, Big W, Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse.
