Kat's Cambridge Catch Up #2

It's been a few weeks since my first update of my time in Cambridge. I'm slowly getting use to the ways of my new work and getting to know some of the students. I'm back as a high school science technician so I have some familiarity with the role. Keep reading to see what I've been up to!

I haven't worn ballet shoes since I was 5. I found a dance school called Bodywork Company Dance Studios, which is close to home that offered beginners adult classes. There's lots of really nice people there and the teacher Rachel, is a great teacher. I get such a workout too!
My new leotard that I bought at a dance shop in London. Love the back detail!
Getting ready for high table - close up of my makeup and beaded detail of my dress. By the time I finished putting on makeup, it was dark so I couldn't get a good photo.
The available drinks on offer at high table. Also the guest book of what happened after dinner and what drinks were had by the guests. There were books dated back to when Charles Darwin sat in the same room!
Our lovely selves dressed for the occasion - hubby's suit from Charles Tyrwhitt and my dress from ASOS.
Market Hill - a permanent place for stalls. I remember walking past it and it had the most amazing aroma from the food stalls. I think I was a bit hungry then!
Inside the grounds of King's College - now that hubby has his University card, we were able to access some of the colleges of the University.
The back half of the grounds - the chapel, lawn and Gibb's Building. Only Fellows and their guests are permitted to walk on the grass.
Inside King's College Chapel - the giant organ, high stained glass windows and the intricate detail of the ceiling.

Castle Hill - There once was a castle on top of that hill, now just a small hill.
Walking along the River Cam - saw lots of punting, houseboats and birds.
Walking through Jesus Green
Stencil cat - walking home from work on Mill Rd.
A circle of Moose - so cold that morning!

I've been to ballet lessons for the third week now and really loving it! My turnout is not very good and I need to build up my stamina and endurance as it's been a while since I did any form of exercise. We work at the barre first with some leg exercises and then we work on our port de bras and movement across the floor.

Colleges here are different. The colleges that are associated with the university are places where the students live, eat and socialise and not where they learn. Apparently there's 31 colleges!!! I think I've walk past only 5 haha. I think every night, they have dinners at the hall, sometimes, formal dinners. There are long tables on the lower floor and then one on a raised platform (think Hogwarts dining hall but not as big). The High Table is where fellows and their guests can dine. It is very common that academic gowns are worn to these dinners. There's waiters that serve you the meals and before dinner begins, someone says grace in Latin! The guests at the high table come in through a separate door to everyone else and they have to stand up before we can all sit down. I wish I could have taken some photos of during the dinner but I don't think it's the thing to do lol. I've been to two high tables and one low table so far and it's such an interesting experience. It's not something I could have experienced at home. The nights are getting colder now so I will need to get a warmer jacket!

I woke up at 7am today and it was still dark! Winter is coming!
