Weeks to Wed Pt 3 | Eloping

Happy Easter everyone!! I hope each one of you are enjoying your weekend. I'm definitely missing my Mr and his incredible appetite for all things chocolate! I won't be feasting too quickly on the sweet eats as I have to be fitted into my wedding soon so the treats will last a good while.

It's hard to choose what to write down next in this series. I could have talked about the many, many wedding expos that I dragged Daniel to. But they were pretty uneventful now that I look back at them. I was so impressed by the stalls and the all the displays. I loved the freebies and taste tastings. Now I have a folder full of pamphlets. So instead, I will tell you the story on how we decided to get married in Scotland!
So far:
Part 1: The Proposal
Part 2: The Ring

Since getting engaged, I always had the plan of getting married in autumn 2015. That would give us time to save and work things out. At some point I knew Daniel would be leaving me to study at Cambridge university for 6 months so that kind of dampened my organising spirits. One day in December last year, I was whining... whinging??...  to Daniel about how I would manage to plan the wedding without him being with me. To my surprise, he suggested casually about eloping overseas when I visited him.

"Are you serious??"

He certainly was. I was so excited at the idea of some low key, no fuss ceremony somewhere in the UK (or Europe). So I busied myself with some research. It turned out that some countries had restrictions on couples getting married such as residency terms or same sex marriages. We chose to get married in Scotland as we didn't have to have lived there for a certain amount of time.

Now where do we go from here?

I emailed a few places to get more information. Now I have a heap of forms to fill out. I felt that maybe it would be all too much!! I thought it was going to be easy!!! Anyway, let's put that aside and let me get to the exciting part.

Castles

I mean we will be in Scotland, so why not go to somewhere historic instead of a registry? So much for no fuss eh? After sifting through what felt like 20 pages of approved locations to get married (which included castles, hotels, inns, clubs), I looked up all the castles and narrowed the list down to.... um.... 20????

Here are some that made the cut!

Dundas Castle
Glengorm Castle
Oxenfoord Castle
Torrisdale Castle
Even though all these are beautiful places to get married, they didn't work out due to costs, availability and packages. I can't wait to show you where we finally decided on!

By the way, there goes the budget!

Where did you get married? Or, where is your dream wedding destination?

Happy Easter!

xxx Kat

  1. We eloped! We went to the Blue Mountains with just our cat (love him!) and he was our ring bearer - we did it just the way we wanted to without arguments and things were just gorgeous! Good luck and keep us updated!

    1. I remember reading your post(s) about that! Looked and sounded fantastic!! I wish I could bring my furbabies to the wedding - so cute! Yes, sometimes weddings can get out of hand and stop being about the couple. Definitely will keep you updated! xx
