Had Me Up In Curls
I had an unopened box containing hot rollers taunting me for almost a year as I haven't used it yet! Last weekend, I whipped it out (to the joys of my cat, Moose - another box!) and had a play.
Even though I have a GHD straightener and a number of different curling wands, I seem to lost my flared for curling my hair without getting it all frizzy or something. I remember watching a YouTube video from emilynoel86 and her demonstrating how she used rollers to get a bouncy wave in her hair. I have always loved her reviews and videos so I thought I should look into a hot roller set. I found a BaByliss Pro one from an Australian beauty online store called RY.com.au.
The hot roller kit contains a heating device with 20 hot rollers in three sizes, metal pin clips and plastic claw clips. I had no idea how to use the metal pin things at the time. Apparently, they go across the barrel of the roller but I don't know how that is meant to keep all the hair in place??? Here is a pic of my lovely hair pre-curled and Moose in the background!
The heating device was easy to use. I turned on the switch and waited about 5 minuted for the rollers to heat up and be ready for use. It took about 10-15 minutes to roll up my hair but I got faster as I found good method for myself. I managed to use all the large and medium sized rollers on my hair. I also didn't use any products in my hair to help with protection or curling.
And a quick change of lipstick here... I left the rollers in for about half an hour and the rollers had cooled down. When I released the first couple of rollers, I got really excited when I saw some curls! My hair is straight naturally and I wasn't sure how well it would curl with less intense heat.
Woo!!! The curls kind of went in every way and some not curly all the way down, which was mainly due to my rolling technique. I looooved the finish but I decided to gently loosen the curls to create a softer wave. Some sections turned out nice and other began to straighten. Without any product, my hair kept the curl about only a couple of hours.
The next morning, I decided to use the rollers again as I got ready for work. I managed to time my morning well and fitted all my usual routine around curling my hair. This time, I lightly sprayed each fresh curl with L'Oreal Elnett hairspray before messing the curls up. I found the curls/waves kept their shape a big longer and by the end of the night, I still had some definition.
I really liked the process of curling my hair in rollers. It does take a longer than using a heating tong or straightener but my hair isn't scorched and frizzy. To be honest, I probably won't reach for this very often as I don't style my hair on most days (my poor other hair tools also!). You can check out a similar product from BaByliss Pro here on RY.com.au and it is $109.95.
Have you tried hot rollers before?

I've never tried rollers before, but these look great! Your curls look gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteYour curls look beautiful! I've been using a heated curler, it takes foreverrr!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty look Kat, love the curls! You look so cute with those rollers. I wish I can curl my hair more often but it takes so much time and I always have to leave early in the morning!
ReplyDeleteA whole lot of serendipity
I love how hot rollers give that big natural curls. I dont own any yet, but I would really love to have one. I saw some for a lot cheaper that this. I wonder if they would perform the same way.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love having curls in my hair but it does take more effort than I would like!
ReplyDeleteWhen I use my GHD, I keep getting in the way of the steam! It probably takes me about 15-20 minutes using a heat tool =S not something I have extra in my mornings.
ReplyDeleteAww thanks! I love having curls. But same here, I would have to sacrifice something in my morning routine to add that in.
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't be surprised if they did work the same. It's good to give them a trial in store of something before buying to see whether it'll suit your hair.
