Hair Colouring at Home

For the past 10 years, I've had some sort of colour in my hair. Born with jet black hair which was thick and straight, I wanted something to give it some dimension. I've had all over single colour to streaks and foils but last year I wanted to go a bluey/purple on the ends. Let's see what happened.

Three hours later, and I had some cool purple in my hair. Unfortunately, it didn't last very long and the purple washed out and turned a little reddy-brown. A few weeks later, I decided to ombre/balayage the ends of my hair for the first time myself. *crazy, I know!*

I used a 30% peroxide and a blue bleaching powder and made the paste according to the instructions. I split up my hair into 8 sections and teased them with a comb. Then I painted the ends of the hair with the bleach mixture onto foil. The foil was folded up like how the hairdressers do it and left it for some time. I was shocked to see what had happened to my hair when I opened the foils!

Wow!!!! My poor hair! So dead from that experience hahaha! Then I dyed the bleached ends red using packet home dyes every few months. This is what my hair looks like when it's in between colouring:

I'm lucky that I (think) have orangey undertones in my hair so it fades alright. I'm very lazy so my hair is more in the 'faded' stage than the 'fresh-and-coloured' stage. I will take you through what I last used on my hair to freshen up the colour.

I normally buy any red colour that happens to be on special when I'm at the shops. The last one I used was Schwarzkopf Brilliance Intense Permanent Colour in 42 Red Passion. This line claims to offer Brilliance's best colour intensity with up to 3x more shine and long-lasting colour. The kit contains a colour creme, Diamond gloss serum, developer bottle, conditioner, gloves and instruction sheet. I used the products as per the instructions except I got stuck doing my nails and left my hair in the developer for an hour!!! Oops! Otherwise, the kit was very easy to use and not messy, even with my super long hair.

Tada!

I love the feeling after I get my hair done whether it be just a trim to a complete cut and colour. I'm so happy that the red is back!

My hair is getting long now and is due for a trim. I really want to change the colour/style but I'm stuck on ideas!!

  1. Love your new hair! I refused to bleach my hair when I went purple (ended up going a bit red lol), I swear it doesn't feel like human hair after it's bleached!!

    1. Did the purple show up?? It wouldn't in my hair if it wasn't bleached first.

  2. I love the purple in the ends!! Looks amazing, but I love the red too! :) I have brunette hair and was obsessed with having it lighter and redder... but this winter I decided to DIY dye it deep chocolate brown! Kind of liking it. I love doing it myself at home, so much cheaper! X
