Comparing the Meerkats
I got to pat some cool meerkats today! I love being able to interact with animals at a zoo. I think they enjoy getting an extra meal in their day =P
This morning, hubby and I drove up to Symbio Wildlife Park which is located in Helensburgh, 30 minutes north of Wollongong. It was soooooo chilly and windy! We arrived just before the zoo officially opened and we were allowed in early to meet the meerkat's keeper, Ryan and he took us to the enclosure.
As soon as we walked inside, we were greeted with three very enthusiastic meerkats. Looks like they knew what will happen very soon! We sat on a log in the sun and were given some grubs and fruit to feed to the meerkats. There were two agile and active boys named Lone Wolf and Alexander and a little female, named Kapuki. Whilst the boys weren't afraid to climb all over us, she preferred staying on the ground. Kapuki was covered in blue colour due to a previous feasting on some blue coloured rats. I couldn't stop giggling at her face. The meerkats were very gutsy, especially the boys, and used they long claws to hold down our hands so they could eat everything in them!
We moved to another spot in the enclosure for some more photos taken by Keeper Ryan and after about 15 minutes, it was time to say goodbye. I can tick that off the bucket list =) Thanks for the birthday present, hubby! Then we spent the next couple of hours exploring the rest of the zoo and feeding the kangaroos.
