Melbourne Travel Diary

I love visiting Melbourne! Last weekend I got to do just that as hubby was at a conference during the second half of the week. I didn't plan many things to do this time so we just went with the flow. See what we got up to!

I flew with Tigerair and their terminal at Sydney airport has been done up very nicely. The airline had lovely staff and the plane was good for a budget airline. Once in Melbourne, I took the Skybus from the airport to the main train station in the city called Southern Cross station and got the complementary hotel transfer from the company. That was good as I didn't really want to walk to the hotel at night time. I booked a room at the Grand Chancellor Hotel on Lonsdale Street. It was a beautiful hotel. They had a 24hr room service but we were good and didn't order from that menu.

Friday night, some friends and I went to an English style pub called Charles Dickens Tavern. I had the Dickens burger with chips which was very yummy. It was a beef burger with cheese, bacon, tomato, pickles and lettuce. After dinner, we headed to a bar called the Golden Monkey where we were given a couple of complimentary drinks (as my friends were staying at the owner's place). We tried Mei Li's China Doll, Emerald Peach Mojito and Shanghai Iced Tea. My friends really wanted to do an escape room afterwards but I was really tired by that time. They did end up going to one on Sunday. I didn't know Sydney had escape rooms either!

On Saturday, hubby and I walked to Carlton to have breakfast at Notturno and then explored Melbourne Museum. Wow! I was impressed at all of the displays - dinosaurs, sea life, stuffed animals, bugs, Melbourne history, psychology and Aboriginal art. A store that we always need to visit when we are in town called Wunderkammer, full of cool science-y stuff! Then we explored some of the shopping centres, Emporium and Melbourne Central and had some chocolate for lunch at Chokolait. For dinner we went to Trunk Bar and Restaurant before heading to Her Majesty's Theatre to watch Strictly Ballroom. I rate all the places we visited very highly and enjoyable!

During our last day in Melbourne, we had breakfast along Little Collins Street in a cafe called Gordon's before setting off to Bourke St Mall and the QV Building. Then we packed up and walked to Southern Cross Station and bussing it to the airport. I didn't really buy too many things but the experience was wonderful! I love Melbourne!

What are some of your favourite things to do in Melbourne?
