NotD | Seaside Ombre

I've been meaning to try this nail art technique for a very long time. Probably since I saw Allison's video on her YouTube channel on her DIY version. So this morning I set out on a mission to do a similar look, how do you like it?

It's a bit spongey looking and not opaque. The application was a bit messy with polish getting all around the nail. Using a cotton bud in some polish remover cleaned up most of the mess. In Allison's video, she used sticky tape around her nails to keep the polish off the skin. I might do that next time I try this technique again. Keep reading to see how I achieved this look.

After I put the base coat on my nails, I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish in White On. I only have two nail polishes from this line and I don't really like them. The formula is hard to work with - kind of runny and streaky and then when applied on the nail it goes too thick. Maybe I'm applying it wrong???

The colours I picked to go on top of the base colour were Rimmel Bonsai and Lively Lilac. I thought they would blend into one another nicely on the nail. You also need a couple of makeup wedges. You can get them easily for a good price, I got mine from Priceline in a bulk pack.

To get the ombre look, I painted stripes on the makeup sponge with my nail polishes. Then I "stamped" the sponge onto the nail, then dabbing it lightly. I was able to do two nails before I needed to reapply the polishes to the sponge. I did about 3 coats of the colours to get this effect. For a more opaque coverage, you need to do a few more layers or maybe a heavier coating on the sponge. I found that the more I stamped, I would take off some of the polish I just put on. Maybe I need to wait for it to dry a little more before I do the next coat? I don't mind the spongey look that I got. Once everything was dry, I put a top coat on to make the nails nice and shiny.

My shoulders really hurt after I finished painting my nails =( Too much concentrating when I was cleaning around the nails. I am looking forward to trying other combinations for this look and improving my technique.

Have you tried this look? What colours did you use?
