NotD | A Little Mermaid

The beautiful weather has called for some almost-springtime nail colour! I was feeling a bit teal and what way to go teal is to whip out a new polish! From the Dior Bird of Paradise Summer 2013 collection nail lacquer duo in 001 Samba (longest title ever?) I went with the teal shade in 794. Here are my thoughts on it.

Look at the weather outside!

Dior nail lacquer in 794 is a mini version containing 7ml of product. I like mini polishes because (1) they fit nicely in storage and (2) I tend to use it more before it dries out. As you can see from the photo above, 794 is a lovely metallic blue-green teal. I like a bit of shimmer!

I really like how the polish appears almost mossy green in one light and then in another light, a more bluer green. If I was a mermaid, I would have this colour on my nails. =)

The formula itself has a thinner consistency compared to say, Rimmel's Salon Pro by Kate (which I'm loving btw). Two coats will give an opaque coverage and even out any streakiness from the first coat due to the formula and square bottomed brush (see pic from blog post here). I did my nails on Friday and I am now seeing only a tiny bit of wear on the nail tip. I am not sure if my top coat (Sally Hansen Insta-Dry) is the culprit but after the second day, I saw noticeable cracking throughout the middle of two nails, which doesn't look appealing. Moose's head also collided with my thumb nail which made a big crack through the polish. My other nails are fairing quite nicely. So I'm not sure what is going on with the cracking, I might try it with a different top coat later on.

What are your thoughts on this nail polish?

Have you tried any 'high end' polishes? Are they worth it?

xxx Kat
